Q&A for summer camp fees

Situation 1: All of my children are ECK-active students

That’s great.  Your 1st child will qualify for our ECK active student rate and the rest of their siblings will get a 10% discount from the active student camp rate.

Situation 2: One ECK active student and One NON-ECK active student

If you have one child who is an active student at Emerald City Karate, they will receive our active student rate.  However, if your other child who will be a camper is not an active member at Emerald City Karate, then their 10% discount will be off of the regular (Non-Active Student) Camp Rate.

Situation 3: All of my children are NON-ECK students

If none of your children are active students at Emerald City Karate then you would qualify for our regular camp rates.  Be sure to take advantage of our Early Bird Special to get the best savings!

(If these field trip destinations are closed due to COVID-19 at the time of our summer camps, then we will put together a ‘family fun center’ at the dojo like we did the last few years.  Our Dojo Family Fun Center will feature laser tag, karaoke, various contests, video games, and a bouncy house.  It’s non-stop excitement in a controlled environment.)

  • Respect counselors and all others both with our group and people we meet along the way.
  • Respect yourself.
  • Have fun!
Safety Policy
  • The safety of our students is our highest priority. Program staff works very hard to maintain an environment where students can participate in activities safely.
  • Occasionally students may experience a minor injury while participating in activities. This is rare but when it happens program staff uses their first aid knowledge to take care of the student. All staff carries basic first aid supplies with them throughout the day.
  • In the unlikely event of a serious injury, staff will immediately call 9-1-1 as well as notify a parent or guardian. In the event of a natural or other disaster, students will remain under the direct care and supervision of program staff until an authorized individual is able to check them out.
  • Minor behavior problems are handled on the spot. Interventions may include verbal reminders, requesting an apology, etc. Repeated minor offenses will result in more formal disciplinary actions, such as contacting the parent or guardian or requesting a conference.
  • Parents will be notified if major behavior problems occur. Larger issues that may lead to the short-term suspension include physical endangerment of others or self, property damage, or theft.
  • If students are found with illegal objects or substances (for instance, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or weapons), they will be suspended and immediately removed from the program.

Yes, they can borrow a Nerf gun from the dojo.  We’ll keep one set aside for your child.  Please let us know before the summer camp starts as we have a limited supply.
Yes, we will have supervised groups at wild waves.  We always group students by experience level and with an appropriate group leader.  We also won’t go into the Wave Pool or the activity swimming pool sections.
The adult-to-kid ratio is about 1:5 when we go on our field trips, especially wild waves.  We’ll be at the water park in the morning and on the park rides in the afternoon.
Before we arrive at wild waves, we divide the kids into groups to match their level of swimming experience.  So if your child isn’t a confident swimmer yet, he or she’ll be with the non-swimmer/beginner group.  Note:  We will not enter the wave pool or the activity pool.  Most campers spend their time on the waterslides so no swimming is necessary.

For communications to campers and staff, parents may call the Emerald City Karate (206) 437-3932.

We have 8 designated parking spots next to our school in our parking lot. Please feel free to use the parking spots to drop off and pick up your child or the ample street and neighborhood parking. Our school is located at 84th St. & Greenwood Ave N just north of the post office. Emerald City Karate is easily accessible by using I-5, Highway 99, Greenwood Ave, 85th street, and 15th Ave NW.

Testimonials
“I first started training under Sensei Tobey in 2008. When I first started my training I was a pack-a-day smoker. I had tried to quit smoking many times but had failed. I promised Sensei I’d quit before my black belt test. I no longer smoke, and I believe that my training in Shudokan Karate under Sensei Tobey gave me the mental discipline that I needed to quit.” -Thom E – Adult Karate Program Your reviews help make us better, leave yours today. “My 7-year old son and I have been going to Emerald City Karate for several years now. We have had a great time and always look forward to our family/youth class. As well as teaching about karate and Japanese culture and language, Sensei Tobey provides great lessons on how to work hard and patiently to succeed in anything. It’s also a great way to get mid-week exercise!”

“Sensei Tobey is my son’s Karate teacher (we’re in the 4 to 6-year-old class).   As a teacher of small children, I find him to be a wonderful combination of patience, discipline, and fun. He is very passionate about teaching Karate and it shows. He relates to the kids very well and can teach boys and girls equally, not only the physical skills of Karate but mental focus skills as well. It’s been a great experience for my son and I highly recommend Sensei Tobey and Emerald City Karate to anyone looking to enroll their child in a martial arts class. “

Testimonials

Before joining Emerald City Karate I had no experience playing sports or participating in exercise programs because I didn’t like physical activities. So I didn’t expect I would be able to keep training for more than a month or so. But I found it to be fun immediately. The karate class has a variety of different subjects that keep students from being bored. Also, Sensei Tobey knows how to encourage students and allows them to have fun while feeling good about themselves. He likes telling jokes and making students laugh but his passion for teaching karate is always distinctive and serious. Because of his encouragement, I have kept training for a long time and even now I am training in Japan! Karate has taught me the joy of exercise and improved my concentration and it continues to teach many students to practice better manners and etiquette.

It is my pleasure to recommend Emerald City Karate for your exercise and experience in martial arts.
